Implications of Depth

Regardless of the flatness of a painting’s components, the lack of shading, the absence (or manipulation) of perspective, there is still the implication of a depth. This suggested depth hints at components not seen, or partially obscured, or alluded to through visual association and textual reference.
An observer does not need to arrive at a singular viewpoint, or sense of atmosphere, or story line.
